Going Private. [Jan. 20th, 2012|07:03 pm]
Due to a leak I didn't anticipate (but should have), my LJ entries will now be private.  This is entirely my fault.  I helped an old friend by allowing some posts to be spread concerning a rather crazy person of interest back in 2005, stupidly thinking the crazy person of interest wouldn't see them.  They got leaked in a way that was beyond my control and I've had to lock down those posts as well as all other public posts dating back to 2008.  Some of you will know who I mean.

So much potential squee! [Nov. 5th, 2008|06:18 pm]

The first rehearsal of Raymere's new locally-based Snakey-type bellydance/ecstatic music band is tonight! He seems to want both an international feel (rather than just Middle Eastern) and a return to our pagan-y roots.  The latter is evidenced by asking me to pick out the melody of the Witches Reel (very easy to do as it's rather repetitive) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jmh3Ai6PE1Q .  I'm so thrilled to be playing in a band again!!!  Especially with Raymere at the helm!!  I don't want to place any expectations on this, just want to enjoy it for what it is and for the company.  He's talking about getting local gigs, too!  YIPPEEEEEEE!!!!

Happy and sad [Nov. 5th, 2008|08:02 am]

I'm thrilled to join the ranks celebrating Obama's victory.  I watched it happen with tears in my eyes.  So many little victories were won last night, Democrats taking over everywhere, Issue 5 passing, Issue 6 not passing...

But there was one victory I remained vigilant in prayer for - California's Proposition 8 banning gay marriage.  It passed by a margin of 51% to 48%.  I mourn with those who yearn for this human right.  A source reminded me, however, that just a year ago Californians were 4 to 1 against gay marriage, so the tide HAS turned, somewhat.

I wish I could give everyone in the Castro District of San Fran a big hug.

The Sign Game [Oct. 29th, 2008|11:10 pm]
AKA Where Are We Going And Why Are We In This Handbasket?

Read the sign below VERY CAREFULLY. For every label that applies to you, drink one shot of the liquor of your choice. Comment with how many shots you took. If you can't stand up after you've played, you win.

GO!

Pssst...  My total was 15.  WOOT!

My first filk [Oct. 26th, 2008|04:49 pm]

Went to my first Ohio Valley Filk Festival this weekend with [info]poltr1   .  Had a great time with the Chamber filkers and enjoyed listening to the songs being performed.  I'm quite grateful for a chance to participate with the Chamber group.  It was fulfilling giving a fledgling arranger a chance to hear his work live.  Filk is all about the song, not band or orchestral instruments, so I really don't see how I have a place in this particular genre.  The people were kind, however, and much music- making was made.

I just got zinged [Oct. 21st, 2008|10:56 pm]

You ever have one of those moments where you see a very real, very possible future? Something that hit you down deep so hard that you were at once scared and elated?

I just saw a brief segment on a local news station about the Ohio State's School for the Blind Marching Band. ZING!!!! My heart leaped out of my chest. I immediately googled the website - http://www.ossb.oh.gov/CurrentNews.html - and wrote to the Director, offering my credentials and asking how I could be of assistance.

Back in 2000, in an interview with the school I was to spend the next 4 years teaching, I was asked where I saw myself in 10 years. I answered with complete certainty, "Taking a band to the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California." Of course, my interviewers laughed at this answer, but they didn't know at the time I was utterly serious.

This blind marching band has been the first blind band to be accepted into the ToR parade in 2010. I didn't know this until I saw it on the website, AFTER I saw the segment on the news.

ZING!!!!!

Maybe I'll visit the school tomorrow with resume in hand.
