You ever have one of those moments where you see a very real, very possible future? Something that hit you down deep so hard that you were at once scared and elated?
I just saw a brief segment on a local news station about the Ohio State's School for the Blind Marching Band. ZING!!!! My heart leaped out of my chest. I immediately googled the website -
http://www.ossb.oh.gov/CurrentNews.html - and wrote to the Director, offering my credentials and asking how I could be of assistance.
Back in 2000, in an interview with the school I was to spend the next 4 years teaching, I was asked where I saw myself in 10 years. I answered with complete certainty, "Taking a band to the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California." Of course, my interviewers laughed at this answer, but they didn't know at the time I was utterly serious.
This blind marching band has been the first blind band to be accepted into the ToR parade in 2010. I didn't know this until I saw it on the website, AFTER I saw the segment on the news.
ZING!!!!!
Maybe I'll visit the school tomorrow with resume in hand.
